Berkley, MI – May 26, 2022 – Berkley Parks & Recreation is pleased to share and recognize the charitable contribution in the amount of $10,000 from a local Berkley business, Vinsetta Garage, for the Jaycee Park Development: If We Build It, They Will PLAY! Fundraiser.

Jaycee Park, a 2.7-acre park located between Bacon and Phillips, is slated to become an all-inclusive playground at one of the City's premier recreation spots. This initiative for the park is to develop a multi-generational gathering space that goes above the required ADA accessibility requirements enabling play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests. The project includes updates to pathways, increased inclusiveness, and a state-of-the-art, universally accessible playscape.

After learning about the fundraising efforts, Vinsetta Garage owners, Curt Catallo, KC Crain, and Ann Stevenson, eagerly contacted the Parks & Recreation Department expressing interest and admiration for this project, understanding the importance and value this would bring to the community.

“We loved that the City was doing this,” said Curt Catallo. “Inclusivity is so important and we truly believe in what Berkley is doing and are appreciative to be able to play a small part in it.”

“I am so grateful for the partnership and enthusiasm of Vinsetta Garage to help support our efforts. Their very generous donation secured our ability to go above and beyond our original plans for the inclusive park,” said Theresa McArleton, Parks & Recreation Director. “Additionally, we were also able to exceed our fundraising goal and have raised $60,980!”

In addition to the resident and community donations, the City partnered with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Public Spaces Community Places program where the department will now receive a matching grant of $50,000, essentially doubling the donations.
