City of Berkley Launches its Watermain & Pavement Replacement Program for Kenmore Rd. and Cornwall St.

Berkley, MI - January 21, 2022 - Berkley has recommenced its "Road Map to a Better City Infrastructure'' as the city begins work on the Watermain & Pavement Replacement for Kenmore Rd. and Cornwall St. 

Public Works (DPW) along with engineering consultants, Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC), are currently working through the design phase which includes the review and coordination with third-party utility companies (e.g. Consumers and DTE), a topographic survey, pavement cores/soil borings, preparation of construction plans/specifications, permitting, and drafting of the public bid documentation. 

Project Scope:
The scope of proposed improvements include:

  • Removal and replacement of the existing asphalt road surface.
  • New concrete curb and gutter, driveway approaches, sidewalks, and ADA ramps.
  • A new 8-inch public water main.
  • Minor stormwater drainage improvements.
  • Minimal trees may also be impacted by the project and the City will work with the affected property owners on a replacement plan.

DPW and HRC will be hosting a virtual Town Hall where residents and community members can view a presentation as well as ask questions in regards to the project on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 6:30 PM (Zoom details can be found on the City website). 

Project Timeline & Estimated Cost:
The start of construction is tentatively planned for Spring 2022. The estimated total project costs are $3 million. The City’s Capital Improvement Millage Fund will subsidize these improvements.

Letters to residents in and around the surrounding area have been hand-delivered.
