The City of Berkley would like to wish Ernest Scalzi Sr. a big happy 100th birthday!

About Ernest
Mr. Scalzi is "100 years young" today January 12, 2021.  Ernest has been a Berkley resident for 74 years. He was married for 57 and a half years to the love of his life Irene. The two raised four children here in Berkley. Ernest has 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, some of which were raised here in the community and some still attend Berkley Schools.

Mr. Scalzi is a World War 2 Veteran. During his tour, he was injured going across the English Channel on his way into the Battle of the Bulge while leading a convoy.

After the war, Ernest became a Rigger, a heavy machinery mover, by trade for many years. After retirement, he dedicated his time to helping others and doing volunteer work.

He has spent several years as Honor Guard Captain for the Berkley VFW Post 9222 where he is a life member. Ernest helped perform military funeral services for hundreds of Veterans, most of whom he never knew. He is also a member of the Berkley American Legion.

When Ernest is not spending time with family, his favorite past times are dancing and singing at Karaoke.
