Berkley, MI – October 16, 2020 – The Berkley’s Parks and Recreation Department embarked on its five-year Recreational Master Plan update to help guide and establish informed decisions on how parks, trails, and recreational services should be developed for Berkley’s 2021 - 2025 Recreation Plan.

The City kicked off the process by encouraging residents and community members of Berkley to share their thoughts and ideas, as well as, help the department better understand the recreational needs and wants of the community. An online survey was made available to the Berkley community from July 14 through August 14, 2020, where it was advertised via social media, on the City website, through weekly eBlasts, and in the C&G News. Hard copies of the survey were also available at the Recreation Center upon request. In addition, the City and Carlisle Wortman & Associates (CWA), the City’s planning consultant, also conducted a virtual town hall and small focus groups to gather feedback from different sectors of the community.

All of the data collected above was used by staff and CWA to collectively create a draft of the Recreation Plan which prioritizes and creates a community full of enriching, active, and healthy recreation. The draft of the Recreation Master Plan can be found at www.berkleymich.org/recmasterplan2020

The City is asking the community to review the draft Recreation Master Plan by November 16, 2020, before the plan is reviewed and adopted by City Council. Residents and those representing all facets of the Berkley community can send their commentary to Chris Nordstrom, CWA planning consultant, at cnordstrom@cwaplan.com.
