Water / Sewer Rates:  2007/2008

Berkley’s Water/Sewer Rates Below Average

An annual survey of southeast Oakland County communities on water/sewer rates shows Berkley continue to be below average.  Many communities in southeast Oakland County base the total water/sewer service bill on water consumption only.  Breaking down our costs and itemizing your water bill more equally spreads the cost among Berkley residents.

Following is a description of the items included on your quarterly water/sewer bill:

Water:  $2.40 per 100 cubic feet

The cost of actual water used based on meter readings, also pays for the sanitary sewer flow.

Ready to Serve: $36.10– 3/4 meter

This is a flat rate based on meter size for maintaining the water–sewer system and includes infrastructure upgrades.

Storm Water: $41.47 per ERU (Equivalent Residential Unit)

This charge represents the storm water that is treated through Berkley’s combination sewer system and helps pay for upgrades to the George Kuhn Drainage System. Berkley’s share of this project is over 6 million dollars.

Refuse: $7.55

This fee includes the cost of curbside recycling and brush, leaf and regular garbage pickup.

Billing Charge: $3.78

The cost for preparing a water/sewer bill.
