Yard Waste / Compost Pick-Up

  • grass clippings
  • leaves
  • small sticks
  • shrub clippings
  • maple seeds
  • vines
  • flowers

Residents are encouraged to mulch their grass clippings and/or to start a compost pile in their yards.   Information on how to do this is available at the DPW at 248-658-3490.  Pickup is available by the following schedule:

 

   Regular Spring-Summer Collection:  May 20-September 30

  • $2.00 sticker service required – one sticker per container per pickup
  • all containers must weigh less than 50 pounds
  • each sticker is good on one bag or can for one time only
  • yard waste will be collected on your garbage day
  • stickers can be purchased at:

Department of Public Works, 3238 Bacon, M-F, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; or

Berkley Public Library, 3155 Coolidge Highway

Fall Collection:  October 1-December 1

Yard waste can be raked to the curb or set out in paper yard waste bags at no charge

Winter Collection:  December 1-April 1

Yard waste can be taken to SOCRRA (995 Coolidge in Troy), in yard waste bags at no charge (proof of Berkley residency required).

Free Spring Clean Up 2009:  Check back for dates!

Yard waste:

  • will be picked up on your regular trash day only
  • is not picked up with the regular trash; it is picked up by a separate truck.
  • must be placed at the curb by 7:00 am
  • will be picked up in regulation garbage cans with “compost” on the side or in special 30-gallon brown paper bags designed for yard waste. Paper yard waste bags can be purchased at most hardware stores; the City does not sell them.
  • may not be placed in regular garbage bags or clear plastic yard bags
