Library

The Berkley Public Library opened on April 29, 1928 with a collection of 500 books. Today, you can enjoy more than:

  • 70,000 books
  • 6,000 videotapes
  • 1,000 DVDs
  • 1,500 books on tape
  • 1500 CDs
  • Puppets and jigsaw puzzles
  • CD-ROMs
  • Subscriptions to over 200 magazines and newspapers

Meet Your Library Director:

Celia Morse has been the Library Director since 1983. She has a Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Michigan, as well as a Master of Arts in English from Wayne State University. She worked at various branches of the Wayne County Library before coming to Berkley, and she has also taught English at Oakland Community College and Wayne State University.

Our library is housed in a 15,000 square foot building that was expanded and completely renovated in 1998. We’re located at:

  • 3155 Coolidge (South of 12 mile on the west side of Coolidge)

Hours:

        Mon-Wed 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

        Thur-Sat 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

        June through August - closed on Saturdays

For Children:

Your library offers story time for children six months and older, as well as many programs for school age children. The library also has computers with Internet access available to the public. For information about these programs, please contact us.
