January 15, 2008 Presidential Primary
- Polls are open 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Clerk's office open Saturday, 9:00 am until 2:00 pm for election business only.
- Absentee ballots must be returned by 8:00 pm January 15th.

Political Party Preference
In order to receive a ballot for January 15th Primary Election, voters must declare a political party preference.
Photo Identification Now Required at the Polls!
Michigan election law now requires anyone voting in person at the polls to show picture identification.
Identification that is acceptable under the new law:
- Michigan driver's license
- Michigan personal identification card
- Driver's license or personal identification card from another state
- Federal or state government-issue photo identification
- U.S. passport
- Military identification card with photo
- Student identification with photo from a high school or other accredited institution of higher education
- Tribal identification card with photo
When are City Council Elections Held?
Elections for City Council are held in November of every odd-numbered year. The next Council election is November 3, 2009.
Know Where Your Voting Precinct Is
Precinct locations were changed in May 2005. New voter ID cards listing your new precinct location were mailed Your precinct for city, state, federal and school elections are now the same.

Register to Vote
You can register to vote at the City Clerk/Treasurer’s Office, Michigan Secretary of State office or by using the Federal Mail-In Voter Registration Form. Voter registration must be completed at least 30 days prior to an election.
Important! If you register to vote by mail and are under 60 years of age, you must vote in person for your first election in the City of Berkley.
How to Get an Absentee Ballot
- To vote by absentee ballot, you must first complete an application for an Absentee Ballot; an application must be completed for each election.
- Request an application in person, by mail or by phone.
- Ballots will be provided (either by mail or in person) once the City Clerk's office has processed your application. To avoid delays, please be sure to complete and sign the application.
- The last day a ballot can be mailed or taken from the City Clerk's Office is 2:00 pm on the Saturday before the election.
- Anyone eligible to vote by absent voter ballot may vote in person at the City Clerk's Office until 4:00 pm the day before the election
- All absentee ballots must be received in the Clerk/Treasurer's office by 8:00 pm on Election Day.

Inspectors staff the voting precincts and are paid $105 for the day plus $10 for attending one required training session. The workday begins at 6:00 am and concludes after the polls close when all paper work for the precinct is completed. Polls close at 8:00 pm. Download and complete the application form and return it to the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office.
