What the City Clerk's Office Does
The City Clerk's Office is responsible for:
- Conducting city, school, state, and federal elections
- Maintaining
voter registration files and elections equipment
- Maintaining
all public records
- Publishing public notices
- Opening all bids submitted to
the City
- Issuing pet and
bicycle licenses
- Issuing permits for garage
sales
The goal of the City Clerk’s Office
is to provide pleasant, prompt, and efficient service. Office hours are Monday through Friday,
8:30 am. to 5:00 pm.

Mary Hughes was appointed City Clerk effective July 1, 2008. Prior to her appointment as City Clerk, Mary served as the assistant to two City Managers for 11 years. Previously, Mary worked in the Public Works Department and Treasurer's office and has been employed with the City of Berkley for 18 years.
In addition to her on-the-job experience, Mary completed a three-year educational program sponsored by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, held at Michigan State University. Mary has also completed the requirements of the Election Officials' Accreditation Program sponsored by the Michigan Department of State's Bureau of Elections. She is a member of the International institute of Municipal Clerks, the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerk's and the Oakland County Clerk's Association. |
