Who is eligible to vote in Berkley?

All Berkley residents 18 or older who have registered to vote at least 30 days prior to the election may vote.

Can I register to vote on-line?

No. An original signature is required to register to vote.  Check here for information on how to register to vote.

How can I find out where I vote?

Check your registration card, call the Clerk/Treasurers office at

(248) 546-2420 or check on-line at the Michigan Voter Information Center .

Can I apply for an absentee ballot on-line or by e-mail?

No. An original signature is required to obtain an Absentee Ballot.  Check here for instructions on how to obtain an absentee ballot.

What are the criteria for voting by absentee ballot and how do I apply?

Anyone meeting the following criteria is eligible to vote by absentee ballot:

  • 60 years of age or older.
  • physically unable to attend the polls without assistance of another.
  • appointed as a precinct inspector in a precinct other than the precinct where you reside.
  • expect to be absent from the community in which you are registered for the entire time the polls are open on Election Day.
  • cannot attend the polls because of the tenets of my religion.
  • cannot attend the polls because of confinement to jail awaiting arraignment or trial

Why does my voting precinct seem to change for different elections?

Because the School District runs its elections and the School District boundaries encompass more than just the City of Berkley, precinct locations are different for School elections and those administered by the City (local, State and Federal elections).

Do pets have to be licensed? Is there a limit on how may dogs or cats I can have?

All dogs and cats over 4 months old must be licensed. There is a limit of 3 dogs or 3 cats or combination per household.
