Road Commission continues to urge the public to contact it though technology and refrain from direct contact with road workers

Beverly Hills, MI — In light of continuing concern about the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has taken a number of steps to protect employees from coming into contact with people who may be infected. This includes continuing to ask the public to contact the agency remotely and to refrain from talking with Road Commission workers and contractors in person, including when they are working on or near the roads.

Instead, anyone can contact RCOC through any of the following methods:

  • Online at www.rcocweb.org
  • By telephone at 877-858-4804 (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.to 4:15 p.m.)
  • Via e-mail at dcsmail@rcoc.org
  • Via fax at 248-338-0675
  • Through the RCOC free app available through the Apple and Google stores

All RCOC buildings, including lobbies, remain closed to the public, including at the Road Commission’s administrative building at 31001 Lahser Road in Beverly Hills, RCOC’s Department of Customer Services and Permits lobbies at its Paul Van Roekel Service Center at 2420 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford Township and it five additional garage facilities. All are closed to the public until further notice.

“We recognize that COVID-19 has brought unsettling times for everyone,” stated RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar. “Maintaining the transportation infrastructure is considered an essential service as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our staff continues to work because it is imperative that we keep roads drivable for first responders and for the movement of goods and services throughout Oakland County.”

Kolar also reminded residents that if they have a question or concern about a road or road maintenance, they can either fill out an online form (visit the website, www.rcocweb.org and click the “Report an Issue” button at the center top of the homepage), call the agency toll-free at 877-858-4804 or send an e-mail to dcsmail@rcoc.org.

Anyone can also follow the Road Commission’s social media platforms for ongoing information as well (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RoadComm/?ref=mf; Twitter: https://twitter.com/oaklandroads; or Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oaklandroadsmi/).

Permit applications and other RCOC forms can be submitted at the Road Commission website (www.rcocweb.org) and plans related to permit applications can be sent to permits@rcoc.org. The Road Commission will now issue permits via e-mail instead of requiring in-person pickup. If other arrangements are needed, call 248-858-4835.

Additionally, the Road Commission has taken a number of other steps intended to help protect employees, including allowing some employees to work from home, staggering work hours for some employees, allowing some field employees to report directly to their work sites rather than coming to the office first and allowing employees to use vacation or sick time to watch children or other family members or if they are not comfortable being in the work environment.
