Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Why is my water cloudy?

Answer: Brown or rusty water can appear whenever there is a large draw of water from the public system. This can occur when water valves are opened/closed, when there is a water main break or when fire hydrants are used or flushed. Naturally-occurring mineral deposits that accumulate within the main get stirred up and become suspended particles, thus producing the discoloration in the water. This condition is temporary and is not harmful.

Residents should avoid running HOT water or washing clothes while the water is discolored. If you are experiencing this issue at the home, simply turn on the COLD water faucet at the lowest level of your residence (nearest to the water meter) and let the COLD water run for a few minutes until the water runs clear.
