We are so excited to be reopening to the public but our FIRST priority is the health and safety of you & our staff.
Below are our COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions for when you come back to visit us at the Community Center.
Community Center COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions:
What should I expect/prepare for when going back to the Community Center?
- The safety of our Parks & Recreation staff and residents is our top priority. We have taken a number of steps to protect the health and well-being of our staff and community which includes enhanced sanitization policies and procedures, social distancing measures, reducing physical touchpoints, and more.
- We have provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to our team members including masks which will be required for staff to wear, and gloves to use for extensive cleaning.
- Due to our enhanced cleaning and sanitation policies, we ask that our patrons;
- Show up only five minutes before class.
- Leave as soon as the class is done.
- Maintain social distancing to the best of your ability while interacting in the Community Center.
- Wear a mask.
What are the Community Center's plans for reopening?
- We will be reopening by slowly introducing our indoor classes and programs by starting with individual-focused activities (e.g. Fitness, Yoga, PiYo, Karate) and they will be held in the multi-purpose room only. Other meeting spaces will continue to be closed at this time.
What are the expected resident safety requirements in order to participate in a program?
- Due to our enhanced cleaning and sanitation policies, we ask that our patrons;
- Show up only five minutes before class.

- Maintain social distancing to the best of your ability while interacting in the Community Center.

What is the Community Center's mask policy?
- In accordance with the State Executive Orders, masks are now required except while actively working out. We have specifically chosen activities where a face covering would NOT interfere with the activity. This means that a mask must be worn at all times, including when entering and exiting the facility.
Do I have to wear a mask while I am participating in the activity or program?
- Yes. We have specifically chosen activities where a face covering would NOT interfere with the activity.
- The State’s Executive Order Exceptions to the face-covering requirements include;
- Children under the age of 5; children over the age of 2 strongly encouraged to wear face-coverings.
- Individuals unable to medically tolerate a mask.
What if I forget my mask?
- We will have disposable masks available if a resident forgets their mask. We’d be happy to provide one for you!

Wear your Mask Correctly
- Wash your hands before putting it on.
- Put it over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin.
- Try to fit it snugly against the sides of your face.
- Make sure you can breathe easily.
What are you doing to keep staff and residents safe?
- The safety of our Parks & Recreation staff and residents is our top priority. We have taken a number of steps to protect the health and well-being of our staff and community including the following:
- All staff will be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and are submitted to a daily COVID-19 screening questionnaire.
- Sneeze shields have been installed at our counters as an added layer of protection when staff and residents are interacting.
- Hand sanitizing stations have been installed at all entrances and exits
- Markers placed on the floor to maintain social distancing.
- Signs have been prominently posted throughout the building and on the entrance door to encourage social distancing and best practices.
- Activities and Programs have been decreased to allow for staff to properly sanitize and disinfect the building.
What type of disinfectant are you using to clean the Community Center?
- Our Parks & Recreation will be conducting increased, thorough cleanings throughout all areas of the Community Center using disinfectants listed on the EPA List Effective Against COVID-19.
- The Community Center will also be disinfected weekly from Public Safety or a contract company such as Enviroscope.
Will hand sanitizer and masks be available?
- Yes. We have hand sanitizer stations that will be maintained at the entrance and disposable masks will be available if a resident forgets their mask.
What can Berkley residents do to stay safe?
- Berkley residents can do their part to help keep our Community Center safe and healthy for everyone by doing the following:
- The CDC recommends you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water before using equipment or working out.
- Maintain physical distance between other patrons and the Parks & Recreation staff.
- Please stay home if you're not feeling well. Don’t worry, we’ll be here for you when you feel better!
